Ozempic tablets: the oral diabetes product and its dosing
Ozempic is no longer only an injection brand. The current oral semaglutide label includes Ozempic tablets alongside Rybelsus, with different strengths and explicit switching instructions.

The brand and route both matter
The January 2026 oral label identifies Rybelsus at 3, 7, and 14 mg and Ozempic tablets at 1.5, 4, and 9 mg. Both are labeled for glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes and major cardiovascular-event risk reduction in adults with type 2 diabetes at high risk.
The tablets have a different product label from Ozempic injection. The injection's kidney-risk reduction indication should not be transferred to the oral product. Likewise, oral Wegovy is a separately labeled weight-management product with a 25 mg maintenance strength.

The oral Ozempic schedule
Ozempic tablets start at 1.5 mg daily for days 1–30; this initiation dose is not effective for glycemic control. The dose then increases to 4 mg daily for days 31–60. From day 61, the prescriber maintains 4 mg if adequate or increases to 9 mg if additional glycemic control is needed.
These are tablet-specific strengths. Do not translate them into injection doses, use multiple tablets to improvise a strength, or substitute Rybelsus milligrams. The label says the products are not substitutable on a milligram-for-milligram basis and supplies a switching plan after the initiation phase.

Fasting routine and missed tablets
Take one tablet in the morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of water. Swallow it whole; do not split, crush, chew, or dissolve it. Wait at least 30 minutes before food, beverages, or other oral medicines.
If a dose is missed, skip it and take the next dose the following day. Do not take more than one tablet per day. Ask the pharmacist to coordinate other morning medicines and explain any prescriber-directed switch between oral semaglutide products.

Safety and evidence boundaries
Oral Ozempic retains semaglutide's thyroid C-cell tumor warning, MTC/MEN 2 contraindications, and important gastrointestinal, pancreatitis, dehydration, hypoglycemia, eye-disease, and other precautions. Discuss pregnancy plans and other medicines before treatment.
A compounded oral product cannot inherit these tablets' approval or evidence. Confirm the exact brand and formulation at the pharmacy, and evaluate insurance coverage for the prescribed indication rather than assuming an Ozempic injection authorization covers tablets.
