Retatrutide status: research is not a prescription approval

Retatrutide attracts attention as a research treatment. FDA's current unapproved-GLP-1 guidance warns about products sold to consumers for research use or not for human consumption.

What to know: A trial result or research label does not authorize personal use of an unapproved online product. Do not substitute a research peptide for a prescribed approved medicine.

Approval needs authoritative evidence

Drug-development results, trial registration, and manufacturer announcements are different from an FDA-approved product label. This page does not present retatrutide as an approved prescription alternative or publish an injection schedule.

FDA's guidance explicitly discusses illegally marketed unapproved products containing retatrutide alongside semaglutide and tirzepatide. A seller claiming research use while providing personal dosing directions is not offering the same safeguards as an approved prescription pathway.

Clinical research has a defined setting

A legitimate clinical trial operates through a study protocol, eligibility criteria, clinical oversight, and a documented investigational product supply. Buying a vial online is not trial participation.

An exciting average from a research study does not establish the identity, purity, sterility, dose, or outcomes of a product from an unrelated seller. We do not use investigational results to promote grey-market products or to rank them alongside approved options.

Why a certificate is not enough

A laboratory certificate may describe a particular sample or test. It does not establish clinical appropriateness, every vial's contents, a compliant prescription pathway, or FDA approval. The product could contain the wrong amount, an unknown ingredient, or a contaminant.

FDA urges consumers not to buy these unknown-quality research-use products for human use. If you have already taken one and have concerning symptoms, seek medical advice and identify the product and amount honestly.

Discuss approved choices and genuine research

Ask a clinician about approved products for the condition being treated and about sustainable access. If interested in research participation, look for an established study team and verify the protocol and contact route directly.

Current approved choices include distinct injections and tablets, each with its own indications and limits. Choosing among them should use current labeling, medical history, and cost rather than a promised maximum percentage from a different research population.
